Why are we here?
Not to be too existential, but really, why are people in systems? Why are the challenges of personnel and productivity so important?
All systems are created to extend or enhance people. Whether the system is technical, social, organizational, or socio–technical, they all come into being to improve everyday lives of people. These systems are all developed to improve the lives of people by ensuring that their capabilities are improved and their limitations are mitigated… and the performance of those systems is essential to improving the human condition.
Human Systems Integration professionals focus on engineering systems that allow people to achieve more in less time with less fatigue and fewer errors. Regardless of the sphere (consumer products, infrastructure, defense, etc) these engineers seek to fully incorporate the human component of systems to achieve not just the best work of each of the components but also the entire desired system performance. The rise in visibility of Human Systems Integration has been central to focusing the technical world on the importance of improving performance of the human components of every system.
