Workforce: Essential to…Everything
The workforce is the essential element to all we do. Regardless of your domain: Performance, Training, or Development; the workforce is the constant in every effort. Why is it so essential to ensure this workforce remains central to all our work?
Workforce really refers to all the people available to work. Those people, the workforce, are the essential ingredient of all activity for both acquisition of personnel and acquisition of systems. We strive to provide quality technologies to develop systems that allow that workforce to be productive and provide opportunities.
Since all systems are populated (by users, operators, maintainers, support personnel, managers, supervisors, and others) systems design must include human considerations. This inclusion must be a thread throughout the systems engineering process. The system is a whole and includes the hardware, the software, and the humans in the system – the “moving parts.” Successful systems are defined by their performance. This system performance is tied to ensuring that the needed capabilities are met. Further, that success is dependent on the performance of all the interrelated humans at each level of the system. Achieving those needed and desired capabilities is particularity important to the developers of complex systems.
